Depending on battery compartment size you may be able to use a A133 (similar size), if you can get hold of one (or 3 × PX1 with tape or heat-shrink to keep them together.
I have also read about 3 AAA batteries, wired together giving 4.5 volts and soldered in place, this means soldering every time you replace the batteries, this also makes for a larger diameter (about 22 mm).
